MacleanThe Maclean Highland Gathering is a unique celebration of Scottish culture. Held annually in Maclean – The Scottish Town in Australia, it is one of the leading events on the calendar for Australia’s Scottish community and has gained national and international recognition.
On Friday afternoon, surround yourself in the enlivening sounds of the pipes and drums on the banks of the majestic Clarence River, watching solo contestants compete across a number of events at the Maclean Showground. Then in the evening listen to some of Australia’s best solo pipers as they vie for the coveted McSwan Family Gold Medal or join the crowds for the Ceilidh in the Park and enjoy all the colour and excitement of a Scottish Ceilidh in a relaxed family atmosphere
On Saturday from 8.30 am to 9.15 am, join the throng on River Street and watch the Pipe Bands on Parade through Maclean as the town comes alive with a spectacle of colour and sound.
Then head out to the Maclean Showgrounds for the 120th Maclean Highland Gathering. You can choose a great vantage point under cover on the hill or mingle around the arena to experience a genuine gathering of the clans with Scottish gift, music and clan stalls, great food and a public booth. Witness the physical artistry of the Highland dancers, watch the thrills and spills of the Highland Sports and delight in the sounds of the pipes and drums, as some of Australia’s leading bands compete. Witness the stirring sounds of the Massed Pipe Band Display with up to 500 performers combining for a memorable finale to a magical day.
On Saturday evening, enjoy solo piping at its best as you listen to some of the world’s finest exponents of the Great Highland Bagpipe play a recital in immersive surroundings at the Maclean Civic Hall.
