Bringing the bush back

Council’s Vegetation Management Plan (VMP) has been informed by the oldest picture we have of Lennox vegetation from 1857, prior to European land clearing.

Painted from the Headland at Skennars Head, looking north towards Lennox Headland, this work by Edward Forde around 1857, shows how this part of the coastline looked, prior to it being extensively cleared for farming in the years following.

The picture details native coastal grasslands in the foreground and rainforest vegetation covering most of the Lennox Headland in the background. The aim of the VMP is to bring this area back to pre-European vegetation that would have existed here through revegetation programs and community planting days.
