National Parks

World heritage listed national parks, rainforest remnants, waterfalls, nature reserves and state forests are within easy reach of the Ballina Coast & Hinterland. Whalewatching

During the winter months whalewatching is a popular attraction in the Ballina Shire. The humpback whale migration occurs annually from June through until October. The Ballina Shire has several lookout locations to see these amazing wild animals.

Historic Ballina Waterfront Trail. Enjoy a scenic stroll along the Richmond River and discover Ballina's history, learn about the significance of local art pieces and keep an eye out for marine life in the water.

Self Guided Heritage Trails

Norton Street Heritage Trail - This trail takes you along a street lined with majestic Norfolk Island pines and dotted with delightful old cottages steeped in Ballina's Heritage. Highlight of the trail is the free historic tour of Ballina Manor.

Walkabout Wardell Heritage Trail - This small village boasts a number of heritage listed timber buildings dating from the closing of the heyday of the timber industry.

Alstonville Heritage Trail - The Alstonville Plateau Historical Society has designed a self guided tour highlighting seventeen sites throughout the CBD of Alstonville and provides a description of each sites historical significance.

Lennox Head Heritage Trail - Produced by the Lennox Head Heritage Committee, this self guided trail describes eleven points of interest throughout the village of Lennox Head, a combination of historical sites and scenic sites.
